A successful week in Chicago

Good-Lite was proud to participate as a Gold Sponsor at the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) Clinic Directors and Administrators and Externship Directors Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting, held October 21–23, 2026, at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago.

The meeting brought together leaders from optometry schools to exchange ideas about clinical education, teaching environments, and externship training. For our team, it was an opportunity to listen, make new connections, and better understand how Good-Lite can support the next generation of optometrists.

A Chicago welcome with tools for the clinic

We wanted our introduction to be personal. Good-Lite prepared a gift basket for each of the 28 participating schools, combining a few Chicago favorites with practical vision testing tools. The baskets included a Frisby 2-Plate Pocket Stereotest, LEA® near vision cards, the popular Rosenbaum Near Card, a city of Chicago lapel pin, Garrett Popcorn, along with a handwritten note to each school.

The response was wonderful. The baskets helped start conversations with educators and clinical leaders about the tools they use, the challenges they face, and the opportunities ahead for their students. We were especially pleased to introduce more attendees to the Frisby Stereotest, a glasses-free option for evaluating stereopsis.

More than a sponsorship

Founded in 1923, Good-Lite has spent more than a century supplying vision testing products for clinical practice, education, and research. Our ASCO Gold Sponsorship reflects a simple belief: strong optometric education depends on both dedicated educators and dependable clinical tools.

We see our role as more than providing charts and instruments. We want to learn directly from the people who manage teaching labs, supervise clinical programs, and prepare students for patient care. Those conversations will help guide the educational resources and product support we offer in the years ahead.

Our next steps: supporting clinics, faculty, and students

The SIG meeting was a starting point, not the finish line. As we follow up with participating schools, our focus will be on three practical areas:

  • Clinical and teaching lab support. Work with clinic directors to identify equipment needs and explore ways to improve access to reliable vision testing products.
  • Faculty relationships. Build direct connections with educators and program leaders so we can better understand their training objectives and provide relevant product information.
  • Student equipment access. Help schools explore convenient online purchasing options for approved student equipment through our ophthalmic student and resident resources.

Our portfolio includes familiar educational and clinical tools such as HRR color vision tests, LEA® pediatric vision testing products, acuity charts, contrast sensitivity systems, Pocket Retina training eye model, and Frisby Stereotests. We look forward to discussing where these tools can support hands-on learning and consistent clinical training.

Looking ahead to 2027

As optometry programs plan for 2027, we hope to be a useful resource for their clinical directors, faculty, and students. Whether a school needs to replace a testing chart, review its teaching lab equipment, or simplify how students source required tools, we welcome the conversation.

Thank you to ASCO, the Illinois College of Optometry, and the attendees who made the October SIG meeting such a positive experience. We are excited to build on the relationships that began in Chicago and to continue supporting optometric education together.
