The Adult Near Vision Low Contrast Test is designed to evaluate near visual acuity and contrast sensitivity using both ETDRS format letters and continuous text. Testing at multiple contrast levels provides a more complete assessment of functional vision than high-contrast visual acuity testing alone.

The test includes 100%, 25%, 10%, 5%, and 2.5% contrast levels. Continuous text ranges from 20/100 to 20/20 (6/30 to 6/6), while ETDRS letters range from 20/400 to 20/10 (6/120 to 6/3) in 17 increments at each contrast level.

By comparing visual acuity across decreasing contrast levels, eye care professionals can better evaluate changes in a patient's ability to distinguish visual detail under lower-contrast conditions. The combination of ETDRS optotypes and continuous text allows assessment using both standardized letter recognition and practical reading tasks.

Each contrast level is tabbed for quick access, making it easy to move between testing conditions during an examination. Instructions are included to support consistent administration and interpretation.
