Preschool (3–4 years): Visual acuity using 20/40 targets
Preschool (5 years) and Kindergarten: Visual acuity using 20/30 targets
2nd Grade: Stereoscopic test using the Massachusetts Battery (muscle balance, far-point acuity, farsightedness)
8th Grade: Same tests as 2nd grade or BRL Test (Both Right and Left) using 20/30 symbols
2. Screening Referral Criteria (Criteria for Passing Vision Test)
Preschool (3–4 years): Pass at 20/40 acuity
Preschool (5 years) and Kindergarten: Pass at 20/30 acuity
Grades 2 and 8:
Muscle balance test (phoria)
Visual acuity at far point (20/30)
Farsightedness (hyperopia) test
General Pass/Fail: Based on achieving the target visual acuity appropriate for age and chart type.
3. Children Who Should Bypass Screening
Children under three years old: May use photoscreening devices instead.
Children unable to complete stereoscopic or distance acuity tests: Use automated screening tools such as Welch Allyn Spot Vision Screener or Plusoptix.
