Summary of the Oklahoma State Guidelines
1. Required Screenings
The state of Oklahoma mandates certified vision screenings for specific grade levels to ensure early detection of vision problems in children.
Oklahoma Vision Screening Standards:
- Kindergarten: Within the previous 12 months or during the school year
- 1st Grade: Within the past 12 months; certification required within 30 days of school start
- 3rd Grade: Same requirements as 1st grade
Screening Tools:
- Sloan Letters Chart or LEA Numbers Chart at 10 feet (school-age children)
- Photoscreener or other Oklahoma Department-approved devices for children under 72 months
