The state of Oklahoma mandates certified vision screenings for specific grade levels to ensure early detection of vision problems in children.
Oklahoma Vision Screening Standards:

Kindergarten: Within the previous 12 months or during the school year

1st Grade: Within the past 12 months; certification required within 30 days of school start

3rd Grade: Same requirements as 1st grade
Screening Tools:

Sloan Letters Chart or LEA Numbers Chart at 10 feet (school-age children)

Photoscreener or other Oklahoma Department-approved devices for children under 72 months
GLD-Vision® Program:
- Assesses visual acuity, depth perception, and color vision
- Screening time: approximately 2.5 minutes per child
- Complies with AAPOS national recommendations
