1. Required Screenings

The state of Oklahoma mandates certified vision screenings for specific grade levels to ensure early detection of vision problems in children.

Oklahoma Vision Screening Standards:

  • Kindergarten: Within the previous 12 months or during the school year
  • 1st Grade: Within the past 12 months; certification required within 30 days of school start
  • 3rd Grade: Same requirements as 1st grade

Screening Tools:

  • Sloan Letters Chart or LEA Numbers Chart at 10 feet (school-age children)
  • Photoscreener or other Oklahoma Department-approved devices for children under 72 months
