About
The Pediatric Near Contrast Test Booklet is designed to assess near visual acuity and contrast sensitivity in children. It provides six contrast sensitivity levels—100%, 25%, 10%, 5%, 2.5%, and 1.25%—with proportionally spaced (LogMAR) lines ranging from 20/400 to 20/16 using Michelson contrast measures.
Each page features LEA SYMBOLS® on one side for children ages 3–5 and LEA NUMBERS® on the reverse for ages 5–8. Testing is performed at 16 inches (40 cm), allowing all contrast levels to be evaluated under consistent illumination and testing conditions.
Contrast sensitivity testing can provide additional information about visual function beyond standard high-contrast visual acuity testing and can be useful for monitoring changes in low-contrast vision over time.
