In the state of North Carolina, vision screenings are implemented to identify visual issues early in a child’s development. These screenings are vital to academic success and child health.
Vision Screening Assessments:
- Distance visual acuity

Depth perception (stereopsis screening)
- Color vision deficiency screening
Age-Specific Requirements:

Annual screenings for children ages 3 to 6 years

Repeat screenings at ages 8, 10, 12, and 15 years
Screening Process:
- GLD-Vision® software provides a 2.5-minute digital, interactive screening that includes all above assessments
The following children should be excluded from standard screenings:

Children with known vision impairments diagnosed by an eye care professional

Children wearing glasses or contacts with an up-to-date prescription
- Children who have had a recent comprehensive eye exam
